Continuous flying operations

Some types of drone operations, in particular, photogrammetry or large area surveys, often require multiple landings for drone battery changes, due to the long flying times needed to complete the project. Sometimes this may need to be done in remote areas, where there is no access to mains electricity for days, or even weeks, at a time! To make things even worse, most OEM drone battery chargers only charge one or two batteries at a time, have a very slow charge rate, and have weak or non-existent locking mechanisms to hold the batteries into the charger whilst in transit, resulting in loss of connection whilst driving and hence no charging! In these cases, it is essential to have a fast and reliable drone battery charging solution that can cope with all this, and keep you flying all day long.

Other types of continuous use cases for drones include surveillance or broadcast footage at live events, even temporary 24/7 platforms for floodlights, radio repeaters, and the like. In these cases, powered tethers can be used to keep the drone in the air on an almost continuous 24/7 basis.

CDS Differentiators:

  • Fast and reliable drone battery chargers, see Chargers / Batteries section of CDS Resources

  • 4WD LandCruiser that has been very extensively modified and setup specifically for continuous drone operations in extreme terrain and remote areas, see “Vehicle” part of CDS Resources

  • My Matrice 300 RTK allows batteries to be hot-swapped without powering down the drone, see CDS Resources

  • Direct experience in this field, see Diospatial case study

  • Direct experience in operating with a tether, as I already own a (non-powered) tether, see CDS Resources

  • Tethered drone operations section is already incorporated into my Operations Manual (mandatory CASA requirement)

  • If required, powered tethers are available through my Partner Network
